IF.....

10% of all the existing roof area* in Hong Kong is built

with an extensive green roof

within 5 years
*including all residential, industrial and commercial and GIC buildings only

The result:

Even if ALL the roof is 100% greened within the first year after the implementation of the ordinance

and the government subsidized 80% of the total cost Under the Government Subsidy Incentive Scheme,

Total subsidy to be provided by the government is only HKD$ 533,059,200

While total government expenditure in 2014-2015 Budget is HKD$ 411.2 billion

Percentage of Total Tax Burden in the total government expenditure is 0.13%

Based on research,

Extensive green roof can reduce building energy consumption by 3% annually

As a whole, the payback period of all sectors is within 3 years

With only 10% greened on every roof in Hong Kong...It can really do a clearly visible change, not to mention it can still manage to cut down 1311.24 tonnes of carbon emisson per year.

If it is increased to 50%, then the change is even more distinct and it helps in reduction of 6556.2 tonnes carbon emission per year

Soon, in the nearest future, when you look up in google map about Hong Kong, you will be stunned by what you are going to witness, it is what 90% of roof area being greened looks like, with a huge carbon reduction of 11801.16 tonnes per year.
